Box Score

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - It was a tough night for the Lady Rebels, as the squad played well enough to win at times, but ultimately mistakes in ball handling and serving proved to be too much to overcome as Ole Miss (7-7, 0-3 SEC) fell to Arkansas (4-8, 2-1 SEC) on Friday night by a score of 3-1 (27-30, 20-30, 31-29, 17-30).

Jaclyn Toohey led the Lady Rebel attack with 16 kills on the night, backed up by Nikki Hill with 13 kills. Five Lady Rebels recorded double digit digs, led by Elena Garcia's 20 dig effort, as Toohey came up with 14 digs, Kristen Carroll tallied 13, Jennifer McGowan dug 12 balls and Ashleigh Shear came up with 10 digs.

The defense on the attack wasn't the problem, though, as unforced errors by the Lady Rebels in the form of 16 service errors and 11 reception errors proved to be costly to the Ole Miss effort.

The Lady Rebels took the first point on an attack from Nikki Hill that the Lady `Backs blocked out of bounds, but Arkansas rebounded quickly to take a 2-1 lead. Ole Miss answered the score and both teams began trading scores. The Lady Rebels edged ahead with a run from there, taking a 5-3 lead, but the Lady `Backs would fight right back into the game before the Lady Rebels would push out to a 9-5 lead.

Once again, the Arkansas squad responded to the Lady Rebel run, cutting the lead to one at 9-8 before Kristen Carroll slammed home a kill that resumed Ole Miss' scoring and saw the Lady Rebs go back up 11-8. Arkansas again stormed back into the match with a run, taking the lead and pushing ahead 14-11 to force Ole Miss into a timeout.

Arkansas held onto a three-point advantage for a while, but the Lady Rebels fought back on Carroll's arm to tie the match at 18 and force the Lady `Backs to call a timeout. Ole Miss regained the lead out of the break when the Arkansas attack sailed long, but a service error by Ole Miss tied the game again at 19. The two squads traded points again from there until Arkansas again took a two-point lead at 22-20 on a net violation by the Lady Rebels.

The Lady Rebels tied the match again at 23, but Arkansas again responded to the Lady Rebels score with a score of its own. The Razorback squad pushed ahead with a rotation violation on the Lady Rebels and extended it when a Lady Rebel attack hit the antenna. Ole Miss called timeout down 26-23.

The Lady Rebels fought hard in the ensuing rallies, but was unable to overcome mental mistakes as Arkansas took the first game 30-27.

The Lady `Backs took the first point of the second game, but Hill slammed home a kill that put Ole Miss on the board. A back row attack call on the Lady Rebels put Arkansas back ahead and the Lady `Backs ran on out from there, taking a 5-1 lead on repeated mental miscues by Ole Miss. Hill scored the second point for the Lady Rebels as she again slammed home a powerful kill that found the back of the court, but another service error gave the ball back to Arkansas. The Lady `Backs continued to score, forcing Ole Miss into a timeout down 8-2.

Ole Miss couldn't dig its way out of the early hole, and Arkansas continued to benefit from Lady Rebel mistakes as the lead grew for the home team. The lead swelled to 13 points for the home team, as Arkansas gained confidence with every score. The Lady `Backs called a timeout when the Lady Rebels cut the lead to 11 at 27-16.

Ole Miss fought back, but nothing could overcome the early lead by Arkansas, as the Lady Rebels handed the home team the second game 30-20.

The first point of the third game fell into the Lady Rebels' column, but again a service error on the ensuing play gave Arkansas a point and the ball. The two squads began trading scores from there, before the Hogs gained a two-point edge at 5-3. The Lady Rebels fought back and took a 7-5 lead, and Ole Miss held to the slight advantage from there as the point trading resumed.

Arkansas tied the match back at 11 on a block and a service ace, before taking the lead 12-11 on a double hit from Ole Miss after a service reception fell low. The Lady `Backs built the advantage from there as Ole Miss again mishandled passes and Arkansas blockers found every Lady Rebel attack for a block. The Lady Rebels called timeout down 17-12 to regroup.

Again, Arkansas fed off the Ole Miss mistakes and held onto the advantage built early. The Lady Rebels managed to fight back and cut the lead to two at 24-22, pushing the Lady `Backs into a timeout.

The Lady Rebels managed to continue to fight and tied the match at 26, but Arkansas immediately pushed back ahead as Ole Miss couldn't get a solid attack over the net and was forced into a timeout down 28-26.

Ole Miss came back out of the break and tied the match at 28, but again a Lady `Back attack hammered home and put the Hogs back ahead. Ole Miss finally got a break tied at 29, taking a point off a bad set from Arkansas to go ahead 30-29, but the Hogs again tied the match with a hard kill.

Ole Miss took the third game 31-29 after fighting off a match point for the Hogs.

The two squads came out trading scores to open the fourth game as Arkansas took the first point on an Ole Miss attack error, but returned the favor with an attack error on the next play. The Hogs took control and pushed out to an early lead much like in the second game, going up 8-2 before Ole Miss would call timeout.

Arkansas continued to control the game and surge ahead of the Lady Rebels, using a four-point run out of the break to force Ole Miss into its second timeout down 12-2.

The Lady Rebels got back into the match on Arkansas miscues, cutting the lead to five points at 12-7, but returned the favor with back-to-back attack errors to start another Lady `Back run.

Again Ole Miss cut back into the lead, trimming the advantage to 16-12, only to see the Arkansas squad push back out to a seven-point advantage with another run. Ole Miss could never get closer than four as Arkansas closed out the game and took the match with a 30-20 win in game four.

Ole Miss will continue to play on the road and look for its first Southeastern Conference win at LSU on Sunday. The Tigers and Lady Rebels will take to the court at 1 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
