OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams will head to Fayetteville, Ark. Saturday, Oct. 16 to compete in the Chile Pepper Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas. The men's 10K Race will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's race starting at 10:30 a.m.

The Rebel men have been led so far this season by freshman Kyle Lewis, who took home a second place finish last week at the UT-Martin Invitational, with junior Justin Jernigan and senior Caleb Hammons both battling close behind.

Leading the way for the Rebel women, has been sophomore Shannon Chandler, who finished 3rd last week, and had a first place finish at the ASU Invitational on Sept. 25. Other runners battling for the Rebels will be senior Erin Jordan, Samantha Mazer and Micah Pioreck.

Ole Miss will compete against over 25 teams including last year's winners host Arkansas for the men and Nevada for the women. However, this event is not just a collegiate race, the Chile Pepper also boasts several high school and open competitions.

"This event is a great opportunity for us to compete against so many high caliber teams," said head coach Joe Walker. "It will be a good gauge for us to see where we are before heading into SEC competition."
