OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2004 SEC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30, in Fayetteville, Ark. The race will be held at the Razorback Cross Country Course at Agri Park. The women's 6K race will begin at 9 a.m., with the men's 8K race beginning at 10 a.m.
Freshman Kyle Lewis and sophomore Shannon Chandler have paced the Ole Miss squads so far this fall. Both athletes were the Rebel leaders in their last outing at the Chile Pepper Invitational, also hosted by Arkansas.
Ole Miss has shown vast improvement on the cross country courses from last season and will be looking to move-up from their 11th (men) and 12th (women) place finishes from the 2003 SEC Championships.
"Our kids have worked very hard all year to be more competitive at this level of competition," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "Their hard work has paid off in the times they have turned in so far this year. Now it is time to have a great race against the top teams in the country."
The Arkansas men and Tennessee women were the team winners at the 2003 SEC Cross Country Championships. Individual winners were Thomas Morgan of Kentucky and Angela Homan of Auburn.
