Ole Miss Inks Right-Handed Pitcher From Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has signed right-handed pitcher Rory McKean to a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Rebels, head coach Mike Bianco announced Wednesday.
McKean, 6-feet-3, 195 pounds, from Montgomery, Ala., was an honorable mention all-metro selection last season at Trinity Presbyterian School. He posted an 8-2 record in 11 appearances, including recording one save, and had a 1.58 ERA in 62 innings pitched. McKean was also selected to the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Underclassmen Top 100 Showcase.
As the starting quarterback on the football team, McKean had recorded a 25-0 record as a starter through Nov. 10. He quarterbacked Trinity to a perfect 15-0 record and the AHSAA 4A state championship in 2003. McKean garnered first team all-conference and all-metro honors, and was a honorable mention all-state selection as a junior in 2003.
This season, McKean had helped Trinity to a No. 1 ranking entering the state playoffs.
"We're very excited to have signed Rory," said Ole Miss assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Dan McDonnell. "He's a very talented athlete and he has excelled in both football and baseball."
Ole Miss went 39-21 last season and played host to its first NCAA Regional. The 2005 campaign will mark Bianco's fifth season with the Rebels and he has recorded a 150-90-1 record at Ole Miss.
