WALTHAM, Mass. - For the second straight year, Ole Miss soccer player Lindley Beckman has been honored on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Last year, the senior Political Science major became the first Rebel soccer player to earn Academic All-America First Team distinction.

Carrying a 3.96 GPA, Beckman has made the Chancellor's Honor Roll every collegiate semester and will become a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient this year. The midfielder from Anchorage, Ky., finished her career tied for the most starts in school history and helped lead Ole Miss to its first two NCAA Tournament berths in 2002 and 2003.

In the fall, Beckman, a Team Captain, was chosen to the SEC All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal against No. 9 Auburn on the Tigers' own field. She was also named to All-Tournament Teams at the 2001 UAB Nike Classic and the 2002 Ole Miss Invitational. Beckman posted 11 goals and 11 assists in her Rebel tenure.

"I'm extremely proud of Lindley," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "Her dedication as a complete student-athlete has been incredible. She has represented Ole Miss soccer to the fullest over her four years, and she will be greatly missed."

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
