Lady Rebels Dominate New Orleans In 100-50 Win

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team connected on a school-record 63.1 percent (41-of-65) from the field en route to a 100-50 win over New Orleans Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,566 on "School Day" at Tad Smith Coliseum. The attendance figure ranks as the fifth-largest in 31 years of Ole Miss women's basketball.
The Lady Rebels improve to 3-2 on the season and 7-0 in the all-time series versus UNO, while the Lady Privateers fall to 0-5 on the campaign.
"We played with great effort today," Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross said. "We shot the ball really well and communicated on the defensive end. We can take this win and build on it. It's still early in the season and we want to get better each time we step on the floor."
Sophomore Armintie Price, a preseason First Team All-SEC selection, led Ole Miss with 15 points, a career-high seven assists, five rebounds and two steals. She also drilled 7-of-8 from the field in 17 minutes of work.
Junior Ashley Johnson canned 5-of-6 attempts for 14 points off the bench, while senior Amber Watts added 13 points on 6-of-7 from the field and freshman Lindsay Roy scored a career-high 11. Johnson and Roy knocked down three trifectas apiece as the Lady Rebels hit 54 percent (7-of-13) of their long-range bombs for the contest.
Redshirt freshman Jada Mincy pulled down a game-high and career-best nine rebounds a Ole Miss posted a 42-36 advantage on the boards.
After misfiring on their first two field goal attempts of the contest, the Lady Rebels connected on five straight shots to take a 10-2 lead with 16:28 remaining in the first half. Ole Miss took a 27-point cushion -- 52-25 -- to the locker room at halftime after the lead had grown to 29 points on several occasions over the first 20 minutes.
Ole Miss continued to dominate in the second period. Roy's three from the top of the key gave the Lady Rebels their biggest advantage -- at 100-48 -- with 26 seconds remaining in the contest.
Ole Miss held an upper hand in every category on the stat sheet, registering an advantage in points in the paint (54-22), points off turnovers (37-12) and fast break points (22-0). The Lady Rebel defense also forced 20+ turnovers for the fourth time in five games this season as New Orleans was tagged with 23 miscues on the afternoon.
The Lady Rebels return to action Saturday at 6 p.m. when Illinois-Chicago invades Tad Smith Coliseum for another non-conference tilt. Fans who attend the Ole Miss men's basketball game against Florida State at 1 p.m. will be admitted to the evening session for free.
