OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss student-athletes were busy during the final few weeks of the fall semester giving back to the Oxford community by sponsoring a canned food drive for the Oxford Food Pantry and collecting toys to benefit the "Toys for Tots" program.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SACC) sponsored a canned food drive from Nov. 5-19 to benefit the Oxford Food Pantry. Student-athletes brought non-perishable canned food items and dropped them off in collection boxes in their team locker rooms.

The student-athletes volunteered at two different off campus locations: Wal-Mart and Larson's Big Star, to solicit donations from the community as well. Nearly 150 student-athletes participated in the off campus collections.

Through their own donations and also donations from the Oxford/Lafayette communities, the student-athletes were able to deliver two tons of canned goods to the Oxford Food Pantry. Members of the football team delivered the donations to the Oxford Food Pantry on Monday, November 22nd.

In conjunction with the Ole Miss Marine ROTC, the SAAC collected toys for "Toys for Tots." The Student-Athletes collected toys from Nov. 29-Dec. 3 and delivered more than 85 toys to the Ole Miss Marine ROTC unit. Volleyball members Jaclyn Toohey and Kristen Carroll delivered the donated toys on December 6th to the Marine ROTC unit. The "Toys for Tots" program benefits underprivileged children in the local community.
