Ole Miss Track and Field Off To a Great Start

JONESBORO, Ark - Senior Antwon Hicks and junior Marquita Aldridge were top performers for Ole Miss track and field team as they opened the 2004-05 Indoor season at the 16th Annual Kickoff Klassic hosted by Arkansas State University held in ASU's Convocation Center on Saturday.
Hicks clocked in with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.21 in the 55-meter hurdles. Aldridge, also finished with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 20-5 in the long jump, putting her second on the Ole Miss all-time list.
"This was a great meet," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "This was a great start for us our returnees, as well as, our newcomers all competed well today." "We are excited to get our season underway."
Junior Kristi Stillwell set a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 54-11.75 with teammate Crystal Stewart finishing second, throwing 53-2.
Senior Octavia Carter finished on top in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.98 putting her second on the Ole Miss all-time list. Right behind Carter was senior LaToya McBride with a time of 7.99.
Senior Brandie Plyler set a new school record in the Pole Vault jumping 12-0 while freshman Carmia Carroll placed first in the high jump with a jump of 5-6.
Also, finishing on top for the Lady Rebels, was freshman Kenyata Coleman in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.10.
On the men's side, senior Chris Lawson finished on top in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.74 followed by senior Franz Bernard (3rd, 22.10), and senior Antwon Hicks ( 6th, 22.19). Freshman Edward McCall finished second in the long jump, leaping 23-7 followed by senior Shantel Glass (5th, 23-4.5).
The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams will return to action on January 14th where they will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Arkansas Invitational.
