Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - Ole Miss (0-4) closed out the Arizona Pepsi Classic with a solid defensive performance through seven innings, but it wasn't enough to get the win, as New Mexico (1-2) edged the Rebels 1-0 in eight innings on Saturday.

Brittany Warner led Ole Miss at the plate, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Sophomore pitcher Dana Brill (0-2) suffered her second loss of the weekend, working all eight innings for the Rebels and striking out 10 batters while walking only three. New Mexico's Perkins claimed the win.

Per tournament rules, New Mexico started the eighth inning with Ashley Shartzer placed on second. The Lobos immediately inserted Jen Sena as a pinch runner and went to work. Becky Dover laid down a bunt and she reached base safely as Sena advanced to third on a fielder's choice that saw the Rebels have to hold onto the ball as first base was left uncovered. Amy Ray was inserted as a pinch runner for Dover at first.

Brill struck out the next two batters, but Kelli Edelbrock hit the ball up the middle and it hit off Brill's glove, allowing the runners to advance and Sena to score from second. Brill struck out Sabrina Sandberg in the next at bat, but the damage had been done.

The Rebels started the bottom of the eighth with Jordan Chitwood on second. Ole Miss loaded the bases as the first two batters, Jenny Cox and Britte Hardy, reached base safely on fielder's choices. The Rebels wouldn't get any closer to scoring as the Lobos would sit down the next three batters, claiming the 1-0 victory.

Ashley Shartzer led the way for the Lobos at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the day.

With the loss, Ole Miss will not play on Sunday in the championship rounds of the Arizona Pepsi Classic Tournament. The Rebels will return to action at the Rebel/Easton Invitational against Tulsa at 5 p.m. CST on Friday.
