OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore LHP Stephen Head and sophomore RHP Brian Pettway combined to post No. 10 (Baseball America) Ole Miss' third straight shutout as the Rebels blanked Nicholls State 3-0 Sunday afternoon, in front of 1,594 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. With the win, Ole Miss completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Colonels.

At 14-1, the Rebels are off to the best 15-game start in school history. The Ole Miss pitching staff has also recorded 30 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the seventh inning of last Wednesday's game with Arkansas State. The Rebels blanked the Colonels 4-0 on Friday and 11-0 on Saturday before completing the sweep with Sunday's shutout.

Nicholls State dropped to 8-9 on the season with the loss.

The three straight shutouts marks just the third time in school history the feat has been accomplished. Ole Miss blanked Tulane, S.P.U. and Sewanee in 1910. In 1964, the Rebels posted back-to-back shutouts over Auburn to win the SEC Championship Series and then blanked West Virginia in the opening game of the 1964 NCAA District III Playoffs.

Head (2-0) worked seven innings to earn the win. He allowed six hits and one walk, while striking out six.

Pettway pitched the final innings to notch his second save. He allowed three hits and struck out three.

Junior RHP Robbie Hebert (2-1) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and one walk, while striking out two.

Nicholls State out-hit Ole Miss 9-8 on the afternoon.

Head and Pettway recorded two hits each for the Rebels at the plate.

Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Pettway's two-out single to score Stephen Head.

Matt Tolbert added a two-run single in the fifth, scoring Barry Gunther and Cooper Osteen, to make it 3-0.

The Rebels will return to action Wednesday evening against the Memphis Tigers at AutoZone Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., at the home of the AAA Memphis Redbirds of the Pacific Coast League.
