OXFORD, Miss. - No. 12 (Baseball America) Ole Miss swept a doubleheader from Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field to achieve the first 10-0 start in school history.

Sophomore 1B Stephen Head hit two home runs and freshman LF Alex Presley hit a grand slam and had six RBIs as the Rebels won the opener 15-6. In the nightcap, sophomore RHP Mark Holliman (2-0) struck out 13 over 8.0 innings to pitch Ole Miss to a 3-1 win.

In game one, Head's lead-off home run in the second gave Ole Miss a 1-0 lead. Freshman 3B Chris Coghlan then followed with a triple, and a batter later, sophomore DH Brian Pettway lifted a sac fly to center to score Coghlan and make it 2-0.

Presley's grand slam in the third made it 6-0 and the Rebels sent 12 batters to the plate during an eight-run fourth inning to go up 14-2.

Head's two-run shot in the fifth, his sixth home run of the year, made it 16-2.

Sophomore LHP Brae Wright (3-0) worked six innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and one walk, while tying a career-high with seven strikeouts.

Junior RHP Kyle Widegren (0-1) was charged with the loss as he was tagged for 10 runs on seven hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Head finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs as Ole Miss out-hit Eastern Illinois 16-9.

Jeff Cammann was 2-for-4 for the Panthers.

In game two, Holliman (2-0) limited the Panthers to one unearned run on six hits and one walk to earn the win. His 11 strikeouts marked his second straight start with 10 or more strikeouts. He fanned a career-high 13 in eight innings last Saturday at South Alabama.

Pettway worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his first career save.

Charlie Babineaux's two-run home run in the fourth put the Rebels up 2-0.

The Panthers (1-4) plated a run in the fifth when Paul Dean hit a one-out single, and after advancing to third on an error by Holliman on a failed pickoff attempt, scored on a wild pitch.

Pettway hit his first home run of the year in the eighth to make it 3-1.

Sophomore LHP Kirk Miller (0-1) worked all eight innings in suffering the loss. He was charged with three runs on eight hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Pettway went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Rebels out-hit the Panthers 8-6.

Kyle Haines went 2-for-3 for Eastern Illinois.

Ole Miss will aim for a three-game sweep of Eastern Illinois when the Rebels and Panthers conclude the weekend series Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
