Rebels Drop Pair Of Games To Bulldogs In Starkville Tuesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Ole Miss (13-33, 6-17 SEC) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Mississippi State (30-22, 11-15 SEC) as the Rebels were never able to get the bats going in the pair of losses Tuesday night.

The Rebels fell 0-8 in five innings in the first game and lost 1-2 in the second game of the night.

Dana Brill (4-15) suffered the loss in the second game of the night as she worked 6.0 innings, striking out four batters and walking none. She gave up two runs on four hits.

Kelli Miller (7-8) picked up the win for the Bulldogs, striking out four batters and walking one. She allowed one run on three hits on the night.

Mississippi State put its first run of the second game on the board in the first inning as Iyhia McMicheal singled to lead off the inning. She stole second before advancing to third on single by Kate Jaspers to shortstop. McMicheal later scored on a ground out by Waterman.

The Bulldogs added the second run of the game in the fifth inning when McMicheal tripled to left center to score Guess from third. Guess reached on a single to shortstop.

The Rebels added a run in the seventh inning when DeDe Justice led the inning off with a double to left center. She moved to third on a ground out by Mandy Ott. Brooke Turner reached on a fielder's choice bunt that scored Justice when the Bulldog pitcher misplayed the throw home, allowing Turner to advance to second. The Rebels were not able to capitalize from there as Mississippi State grabbed the win.

The Rebels never got on track in the first game as Mississippi State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Iyhia McMicheal led off the inning with a walk before moving to third on a single up the middle from Kate Jaspers. McMicheal scored when Jennifer Waterman singled to left field. The Bulldogs never looked back on the way to the 8-0 win in five innings over the Rebels.

Mississippi State scored three runs in the third, a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to notch the win.

Mary Jane Callahan (9-15) suffered the loss for the Rebels as she worked 2.1 innings, striking out two batters and walking two. She allowed five runs on six hits. Tara Willit worked 2.1 innings in relief, striking out none and walking none while allowing six hits.

The Rebels will return to action in the final game of the series at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Starkville.
