THE RECORD: Ole Miss wrapped up its 2003-04 season with a 68-76-5 record (.473 winning percentage).

THE TEAM FINISHES: As a team, Ole Miss collected five top-five efforts in 2003-04 ... The Rebels also posted one top-three finish.

THE INDIVIDUAL FINISHES: Freshman Kyle Ellis (Senatobia, Miss./Senatobia HS) and senior Pope Spruiell (Livingston, Ala./Shelton State CC) led Ole Miss with six top-20 and four top-10 efforts apiece ... Ellis also registered the squad's only top-five finish of the campaign ... For the season, the Rebels managed a total of 19 top-20 and nine top-10 efforts.

THE LOW SCORES: Pope Spruiell carded Ole Miss' best single round of the season with a 68 in round one of the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate (Sept. 8) ... Redshirt freshman Callum Macaulay (Kincardine, Scotland/Dunfermline HS) fired the squad's low tournament score -- a 213 (69-70-74--213, -3) at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate (March 8-9).

THE LOCAL KID PLAYS LIKE A SENIOR, NOT A FRESHMAN: In just his first season as a collegiate golfer, Kyle Ellis made his name known ... He finished 2003-04 with the team's low stroke average (73.94), while also tying for the team lead in top-10 finishes (4) and top-20 efforts (6). The Senatobia, Miss., product also placed second on the team charts with nine rounds at even-or-under par.

REBELS TAKE SECOND AT UALR LINDSEY COLLEGIATE: Kyle Ellis fired a 74-69-75--215 to place third individually as Ole Miss took second at the 15-team UALR Lindsey Collegiate Classic March 30 ... After opening the three-day affair with a 298 and firing a 289 in day two, the Rebels closed out the tournament with a 300 to finish with a count of 887 for the tournament ... Arkansas-Little Rock won the event with a 289-291-300--880 ... Pope Spruiell finished in a four-way tie for sixth place by firing a 73-75-73--221 ... Junior Jarrod Gardner (Austin, Texas/Westwood HS) added a 76-72-76--224 to finish 16th overall.

OLE MISS ALSO REGISTERS PAIR OF FOURTH-PLACE EFFORTS: The Rebels recorded back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate (March 8-9) and Conrad Rehling Invitational (March 12-14) ... Callum Macaulay tied for eighth individually with a three-under-par 69-70-64--213 in Las Cruces, N.M. ... Kyle Ellis tied for 14th overall at the same tournament, with a one-over par 76-71-70--217 ... Ellis led the charge once again in Tuscaloosa, Ala., capping the tournament with a career-best round of 69 en route to a total of 215 (-1), where he tied for sixth place ... Pope Spruiell finished in a knot for eighth with a 70-76-71--217 (+1).

SWOPE AND SHIELDS RECORD PERSONAL BEST MARKS AT SEC TOURNAMENT: Junior Adam Swope (Tampa, Fla./LSU) trimmed two strokes off his best round of the season en route to a 71 in round two of the SEC Championships (April 17) ... He also collected rounds of 72 and 75 at the league finale for a personal-best tournament score of 218, which placed 24th in the individual standings ... Junior David Shields (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) also stepped up in St. Simons Island, Ga., tying his career-best tournament total with a 223 ... Shields collected rounds of 76, 73 and 74 to finish second for Ole Miss and 39th overall.

GARDNER NAMED TO THE GOOD WORKS TEAM: Jarrod Gardner was named to the 2004 SEC Men's Golf Good Works Team, the league office announced April 19 ... The inaugural men's golf team was designed to honor student-athletes who give back to their community in superior service efforts ... Gardner is a member of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has participated in the "Reading with the Rebels" program ... The program occurs at various points throughout the year when Ole Miss student-athletes go into the community to read with area elementary school students ... Gardner has also been involved in the annual "Toys for Tots" program, which donates money to local charities during the holiday season ... In addition, he led a Halloween Carnival effort for the general public last October.
