AUSTIN, Texas - Ole Miss junior Antwon Hicks was unable to collect his second-straight NCAA hurdle title on Friday, but he did claim his fourth All-America honor of his career by placing seventh in the 110-meter hurdle finals on Friday night at Mike Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.
Hicks, who entered the finals with the second fastest qualifying time in the preliminaries, was leading the race after clearing the sixth hurdle. He hit the seventh hurdle and was forced to play catch-up after that. He finished the race in 13.54, while Josh Walker of Florida was the winner with his time of 13.32.
"Antwon still ran a very decent race," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "He was really challenging to win his second title and just hit that seventh hurdle.
"He is a pretty thin guy and he does not clip the hurdles very often, but when he does they tend to really slow him down."
Hicks finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles as a freshman for his first All-America honors. He was seventh at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles and was the 2004 NCAA Indoor Champion in the 60-meter hurdles in March.
Hicks' race closed out the performances for Ole Miss at the 2004 NCAA Championships. The overall meet concludes on Saturday.
