CHANDLER TOP FINISHER AT ARKANSAS STATE INVITATIONAL

JONESBORO, Ark. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams competed in the annual ASU Invitational, in Jonesboro, Ark Saturday morning. Sophomore Shannon Chandler was the top finisher in the women's 5K race with a time of 19:09.00.
"We are extremely proud of Chandler," said head coach Joe Walker. "She has put in hard work this summer and is the poster child for the work ethic we would like to see in all our athletes."
Following Chandler, other runners leading the way for Ole Miss were Samantha Mazer (8th) and Micah Pioreck (9th).
Arkansas State won both the men's and women's team titles. In the men's 8K race, Ole Miss's Justin Jernigan, a junior from Taylorsville, Miss. posted a 2nd place finish with freshman Kyle Lewis placing 3rd.
"We are very pleased with our overall performance at the meet," said head coach Joe Walker. "It's great to see freshmen like Kyle Lewis stepping up and finishing strong."
The Rebels travel to Martin, Tenn. on Saturday Oct. 9 where they will compete in the UT-Martin Invitational.
