MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The 58th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team downed Middle Tennessee 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Murfreesboro Racquet Club. With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 5-2, while MTSU dropped to 3-3.

Ole Miss won two of the three doubles matches to gain the opening point for a 1-0 lead. Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis, ranked No. 39 in the nation, posted an 8-3 win over MTSU's Jennifer Klaschka and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom at No. 1 doubles. Carlotti and Tomatis are now 12-4 on the year at 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

The Lady Rebels jumped on the Blue Raiders in singles and never let up. Carlotti, ranked No. 32 in the nation, downed Klaschka 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot. The two-time All-American has won seven in a row and eight of her last nine, while improving to 7-0 at No. 1 singles.

Ilona Somers faced Ana Maria Ciblis at No. 2 singles and won the first set 6-1. She was leading 3-0, before Ciblis retired. According to the MT website, Ciblis was suffering from the effects of the flu. Somers is now 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Moments later, Tomatis finished off Claudia Szabo at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the win. With her 5-1 dual match record, the Lady Rebels are a combined 18-2 at the top three spots in the lineup.

"It was good to get a win on the road," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We played pretty well and never gave them (MT) a chance to get in the match. We got up on them early at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles and never let them in the matches. Then we posted quick wins at the top two positions in singles. Vicki finished it off. This team had just gone 4-3 with 32nd-ranked New Mexico, so this was a solid win. Their No. 1 doubles team had just defeated the No. 4 team in the country, so that will be a big win for Chloe and Vicki. Now we have to get ready for Troy University, our last tuneup before the SEC schedule begins."

Freshman Mimi Renaudin defeated MT's Jacqui Williams 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and freshman Preethi Subramanian topped Emily Vest (MT) 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles to round out the scoring for the Lady Rebels.

Middle Tennessee's lone win came after the match was clinched when Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeated Lady Rebel freshman Nika Koukhartchouk 7-6, 1-6 (10-6).

The Lady Rebels will host Troy University Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
