McBride Places Fourth In Pentathlon At SEC Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ole Miss senior LaToya McBride set a new Ole Miss record in the pentathlon with her fourth place performance at the 2005 SEC Indoor Championships. McBride, a Pine Bluff, Ark., native, scored 3,852 points on her way to a new personal best mark and the 16th best mark in the NCAA this season.
"LaToya really performed well," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "She really turned in a performance she can build on, as well as our team. I would expect nothing less from such a great leader."
McBride opened the day with the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.87, which earned her 937 points. She then tallied 867 points by clearing 5-7.25 in the high jump, before collecting 568 points in the shot put with her toss of 34-9, which was also a new personal best. McBride then turned in another indoor personal best with her leap of 19-7 in the long jump, which earned her 840 points. She finished out the pentathlon with a time of 2:34.33 in the 800 meters, which was good for the final 640 points.
With her fourth place finish in the pentathlon, McBride earned Ole Miss five points, which also places the Rebel women in fourth place in the team standings after one day of action.
The Rebel track teams will resume action a the 2005 SEC Indoor Championships on Saturday with the action beginning at Noon.
