OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team will return to action Monday at the NOKIA Sugar Bowl/Tulane Invitational fresh off a win at the All-South Collegiate Invitational Feb. 14-15 in Alachua, Fla., by 13 strokes.
The annual event will be held in New Orleans at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.
"We are excited about getting back to competition," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "We have been practicing some specific areas of our game that relate to the course we are about to play. I am excited to see if it pays dividends."
The Rebels fared well on their first road trip of 2005, winning by 13 strokes over Johnson and Wales University in the 18-team field. Several individuals stood out in the Florida tournament.
Senior Jordan Dempsey recorded his season-best round of 67 for the third time in 2004-05 on his way to a first-place tie.
Sophomore Kyle Ellis finished with a pair of two-under-par 70s, good for third place in the invitational.
Seniors Lucas Boyd and Adam Swope saw their first action of the season and contributed rounds of 69 and 70 on the final day to help the Rebels to the big finish.
The 54-hole tournament NOKIA Sugar Bowl/Tulane Invitational begins Monday with the first two rounds, finishing Tuesday with the third 18 holes.
The 13-team field includes Tulane, New Orleans, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, West Florida, Tulsa, Notre Dame, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee State and UNC-Wilmington.
SMU won last year's title with a four-over-par 868, while Ole Miss finished sixth at 902.
English Turn is a par 72 course spanning 7,078 yards. Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, it has been rated the No. 2 course in Louisiana, and is the current home for the New Orleans PGA Tour stop.
