BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss women's golf team finished 12th after shooting a 309 in Sunday's final round at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, despite a strong showing by senior Nikki Hadd (79-74-74--227), who fired her second-straight round of 74 to place 22nd for the tournament.
The Lady Rebels shot 923 for the 54-hole tourney after rounds of 307 on Friday and Saturday, followed by Sunday's 309. The three-day total is Ole Miss' best mark since they fired a 913 at the SEC/ACC Challenge this past October 29-31.
"We are still not playing up to our potential," said Ole Miss head coach Meghan Bolger. "When you are playing such good competition with every tournament field and not coming close to your potential, it will hurt you in the long run. We need our girls to start stepping up. At this stage, every shot counts."
LSU (296-290-293--879) led the field of 16 all three rounds at their home course, University Club, to claim the 17-stroke victory over runner-up Tulane (896). N.C. State (908) took third, while SEC schools Vanderbilt (914) and Mississippi State (915) rounded out the top five. Vanderbilt's Chris Brady earned individual first-place honors with a five-under 211.
Hadd's total of 227 and individual rounds of 74 were her lowest since the SEC/ACC Challenge.
Sophomore Katie Davidson (72-77-79--228) finished right behind Hadd in a tie for 23rd, while junior Laura Evans (75-80-74--229) carded her best tournament score of the year with a 229, her lowest since shooting a 226 in the Lady Razorback Invitational in the fall of 2003, to tie for 28th place.
Junior Sarah Kate Cousart scored an 83-76-82--241 for a 70th-place tie, and freshman Katherine Jones rounded out the Ole Miss scoring with a 81-87-83--251 for 84th place.
With spring break over, the Lady Rebels will head back to class and prepare for the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, to be held this Friday-Sunday in Athens, Ga. It will be the last tune-up for the Lady Rebels before hosting this year's SEC Championships at Tunica National.
