Rebel Men And Women Set To Host Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Track and Field teams will play host to the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex. The meet is the first of three home meets on the 2005 schedule.
"We are excited to host this meet," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "There will be some great competition, it will be exciting to see how our athletes will compete at home on our track."
The Ole Miss Invitational will kick-off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the women's hammer and women's javelin and will conclude at 5:45 with the men's 4x400-meter relay. Sunday's action will only include the remaining three events of the women's heptathlon and will begin at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices for the meet are five dollars for adults and two dollars for children high school age and below. Ole Miss students with a valid ID will be entered for free.
Eleven teams are set to join Ole Miss in the meet. The teams include: University of Minnesota (women), Northwestern State, Louisiana-Monroe, Rust College, Southern Mississippi, Arkansas (women), Alabama (men), Alabama at Huntsville, Arkansas-Little Rock, Memphis, and Arkansas State.
Leading the Lady Rebel squad will be freshman Alexis McField who jumped to the second best mark in school history in the triple jump at the LSU Relays last weekend with a jump of 41-9.25. Joining McField in the jumps, will be junior, Marquita Aldridge, who ranks second in the long jump among Rebel women with a jump of 20-5. Also leading for the Lady Rebels will be senior Octavia Carter, who finished in third place last week with a time of 13.83 in the 100-meter hurdles, and senior Brandie Plyler who currently holds the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 12-10. Senior, LaToya McBride will compete in the heptathlon, where she finished in second place at the Invitational last year.
Leading for the Rebel men will be two-time NCAA Indoor 60-meter hurdles champion, senior Antwon Hicks, senior Shantel Glass who had a second place finish in the long jump at last week's LSU Relays with a jump of 24-1. Another leader for the Rebel men will be the current SEC Track and Field Male Field Athlete of the Week, senior Brandon Atkinson, who took home the men's title in the triple jump last weekend, with a mark of 52-0.
