BATON ROUGE, La. - The 45th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team swept the doubles and then won four of the six singles matches on their way to a 5-2 win over 47th-ranked LSU Friday at the Dub Robinson Tennis Stadium.

With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the SEC as they get set to face Arkansas Sunday in Fayetteville. Ole Miss kept pace with Mississippi State in the battle for the West. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Arkansas 4-0 Friday to maintain a one-match lead.

The Lady Rebels jumped on the Lady Tigers (7-8, 1-6 SEC) in doubles, sweeping all three for a 1-0 lead. Ole Miss dominated at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, winning 8-2 on both courts to grab the point. Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis, ranked No. 24 in the nation, improved to 12-4 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win.

Sophomore Ilona Somers had a great day, topping her win in doubles by downing LSU's Staten Spencer, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to give Ole Miss a 2-0 lead. Tomatis got back on the winning side in singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Marina Chiarelli at No. 3 singles to put the Lady Rebels up 3-0.

Freshman Nika Koukhartchouk improved to 6-1 in the SEC and 11-3 in dual matches with her 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles to clinch the victory. Koukhartchouk faced LSU's Lauren Seaman, who returned to the lineup after missing the last four matches due to injury.

"We played great in doubles," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Then we got quick wins from Ilona and Vicki to go up 3-0. Nika is playing really well right now, and she did a great job of closing out the match. I was happy for Chloe to win her match. This was a great win in a hostile environment. Now, we must go take care of business against Arkansas."

LSU gained its only points on the day with straight set wins on courts five and six. Mimi Renaudin lost to Tiffany Tucker 7-6, 6-3, and Preethi Subramanian fell to Camila Caliari, 7-5, 6-3. The loss was Subramanian's first conference setback, as she now stands at 9-2 at No. 6 singles and 5-1 in the SEC.

Carlotti, ranked No. 57, came back to beat LSU's 99th-ranked Amanda Mang, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the final 5-2 score

The Lady Rebels and Arkansas will battle Sunday at 1 p.m.
