OXFORD, Miss. - Head football coach Ed Orgeron was pleased with the improvement of the offense and the energy level of the players at Friday's three-hour-long practice at the Indoor Practice Facility, the 10th of 15 for Ole Miss this spring.
"It was outstanding work today. I loved the tempo, I loved the attitude, I liked the hitting. I liked the way we were able to respond to certain things on offense. We had a couple of periods in which we worked on situations that were bothering us and we fixed them, and I am really proud of that," Orgeron said.
The Rebels kicked off the full-pads practice, which was inside due to the afternoon's wet conditions, with a series of stretching, conditioning and agility drills before breaking up into positions for individual work.
The team then moved into a 20-minute period of 11-on-11 team work focused on basic offensive and defensive strategy, which Orgeron was impressed with.
"We had a great period with the team run period. We fixed some stuff that was pretty basic to the offense that we had to get fixed."
The Rebels moved onto six-on-six drills working on the passing game before concluding with a lengthy 11-on-11 full-contact session, which saw the majority of the Ole Miss players see some action.
As part of this weekend's coaching clinic, Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow spoke to the team before practice. Chow and Orgeron were both on the coaching staff under Pete Carroll at Southern California until this offseason.
"It's a good day for the Ole Miss Rebels. We're upgrading the program, taking the program to the next level. One of my goals is to be able to have people around that can help us. It's the same thing we did at Southern Cal," Orgeron said.
Ole Miss heads back to the practice fields Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. practice, which will include a scrimmage set to take place around noon. The annual Red-Blue Grove Bowl game is scheduled for next Saturday, April 9.
