No. 22 Ole Miss Tips Memphis 6-5

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - No. 22 Ole Miss scored three runs in the seventh to rally for a 6-5 win over Memphis Wednesday evening, in front of 3,222 at AutoZone Park. With the win, the Rebels (29-13) sweep the two-game season series as they defeated the Tigers (10-30) 13-4 Tuesday night at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
Cooper Osteen started the seventh with a one-out walk, and Chris Coghlan followed with a single to left to advance Osteen to second. Stephen Head then hit a RBI single to scored Osteen, and Coghlan scored on the play off a throwing error by catcher Cory Barton. Head would advance to third on the error and scored when Brian Pettway followed with a double down the left field line.
Junior right-hander Stoney Stone (3-0) worked three innings of relief to earn the win. He allowd one run on two hits and no walks, while striking out four.
Stone, Jon-Jon Hancock and Pettway combined to hold Memphis to one run on four hits over the final six innings after the Tigers had built a 4-1 lead.
Pettway retired all five batters he faced in pitching the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his fourth save of the year.
Senior left-hander Chris Davis (0-1) suffered the loss in relief, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk.
Coghlan went 4-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Rebels at the plate.
Robbie Goss was 4-for-4 with an RBI for Memphis.
Ole Miss out-hit the Tigers 14-10 on the evening.
The Rebels got on the scoreboard first with an RBI double by Coghlan in the third. Memphis answered with four runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run double by K.K. Chalmers to take a 4-1 lead.
Ole Miss will return to action Friday evening when the Rebels open a three-game Southeastern Conference series against Mississippi State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
