DES MOINES, Iowa - Ole Miss senior hurdler Antwon Hicks made a big statement at Saturday's action at the Drake Relays. The Hot Springs, Ark., native, who already had the top time in the NCAA in the 110-meter hurdles this spring, blazed to the finish line tying his own school record time of 13.42.

Hicks finished third in the 110-meter hurdles special race, but was the top collegiate finisher in a race that featured many of the nations top hurdlers, both professional and collegiate. His time of 13.42 is not only the top time in the NCAA this spring, it is the fifth-fastest time in the world in 2005.

"What a race!" said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "I am so proud of Antwon. At this point he was ready for a big challenge in order to get a good push for himself. I knew he would run a fast time. When the pressure gets greater, this guy really knows how to perform."

Senior Octavia Carter ran 13.77 to finish in fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles, while senior Chris Lawson clocked in at 10.62 for a fifth place finish in the men's 100 meters and sophomore Kimberly Mulkey ran 11.87 for fifth place in the women's 100 meters.

The Lady Rebel 4x100-meter relay team of Marquita Aldridge, Chiquita Stephens, Mulkey and Kenyata Coleman finished four with a time of 45.17.

Ole Miss will take next weekend off in preparation for the 2005 SEC Outdoor Championships. The SEC Championships will take place May 12-15 at Vanderbilt University.
