OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss had a stroke of bad luck on Saturday as nothing seemed to go right down the stretch for the Rebels in a doubleheader loss to No. 11 Tennessee on Saturday.

After falling 4-0 in the first game, the Rebels held a 1-0 lead in the second game with two outs in the seventh, only to watch it slip away on four hits and an error that saw Tennessee plate three runs on the way to a 3-1 win.

"It was a tough day for us to say the least," said Ole Miss head coach Candi Letts. "We haven't seen a pitcher like Monica Abbott all season and she really took it to us in the first game. I was proud to see the fight the girls showed in the second game, bouncing back and coming right at Tennessee. Things just kind of fell apart on us in the final frame and Tennessee was able to snatch the win back."

Dana Brill (9-9) suffered the loss for the Rebels as she allowed 10 hits and three runs on the night. Brill struck out eight batters on the night and issued only one walk.

Megan Rhodes (13-4) picked up the win for Tennessee as she struck out eight and walked two. She allowed only one run that was unearned on the day on two hits. Monica Abbott then picked up her third save of the season with an inning of work to get the Lady Vols the win.

Kayla Mosley got the first hit of the day for the Rebels in the second game with a bunt single in the first inning. The Rebels were unable to get her home as she was left at first.

Kristi Durant led off the second with a single up the middle and moved to second on a single to short from Doepking to put runners at first and second with no outs. LaDonna Oliver then came in as a pinch runner for Doepking at first. Brill pitched her way out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts following a groundout to end the inning.

Brooke Turner drew a walk with two outs in the second to get a runner for the Rebels and moved to second on a stolen base with Rebecca McIntire up to bat. McIntire lined a solid shot to left, but the fielder got her glove under it to record the out.

With two outs in the third, Tennessee loaded the bases with a walk to Durant. Brill again came up with masterful pitching, striking out the final batter looking to get the Rebels out of the jam.

DeDe Justice led off the third with a high fly ball dropped by the left fielder, allowing Justice to reach third. Mosley then recorded her second bunt single of the game to put runners at the corners. Ole Miss got on the board when Mandy Ott grounded out to first, allowing Justice to score and Mosley to move to second.

Durant took a single to second to reach with one out in the sixth inning, then was replaced by Courtney Bell who pinch ran at first. Bell was removed from the base path at second on a fielder's choice grounder to first from Doepking. Tonya Callahan then singled to centerfield to put runners at first and second. Ole Miss got out of the inning when Card grounded out to first to end the inning.

Tennessee took things to the Rebels in the seventh, rallying with two outs to score three runs on four hits and take the lead into the bottom half of the inning.

Lauren Rowe led off the Rebel half of the seventh with a double to right center, but the Rebels were unable to get her home as the next three batters all struck out to end the game.

Mary Jane Callahan (11-13) suffered the loss for the Rebels as she allowed four runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking three.

Monica Abbott (36-7) picked up the win as she threw a no-hitter against the Rebels. Abbott struck out 15 and walked none. She hit one batter by a pitch. Abbott is the first pitcher to no-hit the Rebels this season.

Tennessee opened the game with a leadoff walk for Lindsay Schutzler, who then stole second on the second pitch to the next batter. Sarah Fekete then laid down a sac bunt to advance Schutzler to third, but Fekete beat the throw putting runners at the corners. Schutzler then scored from third as Chloe Kloezeman tagged out Fekete at second attempting to steal. Erin Faircloth was then forced to replace Kloezeman at short as Kloezeman was shaken up on the play. The Rebels then got out of the inning with two straight groundouts from the Lady Vols, but Tennessee led 1-0.

The Lady Vols led off the third inning with a single to short from India Chiles, and she then stole second. Chiles then scored when Schutzler laced a single through the right side, and advanced to second on a fielding error by the right fielder. The error allowed Chiles to score from third. Tennessee put runners at the corners with two outs when Tonya Callahan was hit by a pitch. Ole Miss got out of the jam as Cline grounded out to third. Tennessee led 2-0.

Tonya Callahan led off the sixth with a single through the left side and was replaced at first by pinch runner LaDonna Oliver. Oliver moved to second on a sac bunt from Doepking. Oliver then scored on a double to left center from Card. Card then scored on a single and a fielding error in right field to put Tennessee up 4-0.

Ole Miss got its first base runner in the sixth when Rebecca McIntire reached as she was hit by a pitch from Abbott, breaking up the perfect game. The Rebels were unable to do anything with her, though, stranding her at first.

Ole Miss and Tennessee will conclude the series with a single game to be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be played at the Ole Miss Softball Complex and admission is free to the public.
