Seniors Dominate For Ole Miss At Mississippi Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - Senior Shantel Glass is one of several seniors who continue to shine for the Ole Miss track and field teams. Glass took home his second-straight long jump title in leading the Rebels at the Mississippi Invitational on Saturday at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex. Glass turned in his best mark of the 2005 season as he jumped 25-5.25 in taking home the title.

"This was an outstanding day for track and field," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "We could not have asked for better weather. On top of that our kids came and and really performed well. I am so thrilled to have these senior leaders on our team. They are laying a very nice foundation for the future of Ole Miss Track and Field."

Fellow senior Antwon Hicks turned in a season's best time in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday. Hicks won the race with his time of 13.68, which ranks tied for the top spot in the NCAA. Hicks, a two-time NCAA champion in the 60-meter indoor hurdles, has won the 110-meter hurdles race in back-to-back meets.

Senior Brandon Atkinson took home first place in the triple jump. Atkinson turned in a mark of 52-1 on his way to winning his third-straight title in the triple jump.

Junior Marquita Aldridge led the Rebel women as she claimed the title in the women's long jump. Aldridge finished with a season's best mark of 19-10.25 to take home first place.

The Rebel women set a new school record in the 4x100-meter relay. Ole Miss took home first in the race with their regional qualifying mark of 44.71.

Senior Octavia Carter placed second in the 100-meter hurdles. Carter turned in a regional qualifying mark of 13.85. Freshman Kirby Patterson placed second in the 800 meters with her personal best time of 2:10.83. F

reshman Kenyata Coleman turned in an impressive effort in the 400 meters as she finished second with a regional qualifying mark of 53.35. Coleman's mark is the second fastest time in Ole Miss history. Freshman Sirdonea Davis was not far behind Coleman, as she finished fourth with a personal best time of 55.27 and sophomore Kimberly Mulkey was sixth with her time of 55.92.

Senior LaToya McBride placed second in the high jump by clearing 5-8.75. Freshman Carmia Carroll also cleared 5-8.75, but finished third on missus. The Lady Rebel 4x400-Meter `A' Relay team placed second with a regional qualifying time of 3:38.61. The time ranks third in Ole Miss history.

The Ole Miss track and field teams will travel to Tempe, Ariz., on April 15-16 for the Sun Angel Invitational. Upon returning from Tempe, the Rebels will host their third and final home meet of the 2005 season, the Ole Miss Open on April 23.
