INDIANAPOLIS - Ole Miss All-SEC golfer Jordan Dempsey has been selected to compete at the NCAA East Regional May 19-21 in Nashville, Tenn., with a chance to compete for an individual national championship. The field was announced Monday afternoon by the NCAA selection committee.

"By his excellent play all season, Jordan has certainly earned the right to play at an NCAA regional," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "I know he is excited to have his season extended and be able to play against the very best in the country."

The senior from Jacksonville, Fla., is the No. 1 seed out of the field of six individuals chosen for the East Regional from schools that did not qualify as a team. The other five are Rob Langley of Furman, Michael Thompson of Tulane, Robert Dinwiddie of Tennessee State, Joe Deraney of Mississippi State and Chris Wheeler of Tulane.

Dempsey leads the Southeastern Conference in stroke average at 71.47, and has led for the entire spring portion of the season. He currently ranks second in Ole Miss history in top-five finishes in a season (7), top-10 finishes in a season (9), season stroke average (71.47) and most rounds at par or better in a season (19).

The SEC will host the East Regional, which will be held at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville.

A total of 18 individuals were selected at-large to compete in the three regionals (the other two are in South Bend, Ind., and Stanford, Calif.) alongside those participating with their teams.

The top 10 teams and top two individuals from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The last Rebel individual to make the cut and advance to the final two rounds of the NCAA Championships was Jon Barlett in 2000. He tied for 24th.
