BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior golfer Jordan Dempsey has been named to the All-Southeastern Conference first team, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

He becomes the Rebels' first All-SEC honoree since Troy Muller made the second team in 2001. The last Rebel selected to the first team was Jon Bartlett in 2000.

"Jordan had a great year for us, and was very close to being the SEC Player of the Year. He was not only a great player for us, but he was also a team leader with his practice habits and attitude," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross, who has coached 12 All-SEC golfers, including SEC Players of the Year Dave Peege (1984 and 1985) and Darren Cole (1985), in his nine-year Ole Miss career.

"Jordan should get a spot in the NCAA Regionals and have a chance to extend his season. As his coach, I appreciate all he did for us this season."

The Jacksonville, Fla., native has led the SEC in stroke average for the entire spring portion of the 2004-05 season and has been in the top five all season. He currently leads with a 71.47 average.

Entering the SEC Championships, which were held April 15-17 in St. Simons Island, Ga., Dempsey also led the conference with 15 rounds under par (out of 29 total rounds) and nine top-10 tournament finishes.

He was named SEC Golfer of the Week on Oct. 6 for his performance at the Memphis Intercollegiate, where he was the runner-up after shooting an even-par 216 in the 54-hole tournament.

Dempsey also recorded the second of Ole Miss' two individual tournament victories when he tied for first at the All-South Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 15 in Alachua, Fla. He carded his sixth career round of 67 on the second day of that tournament to tie his career high.

In his three-year career at Ole Miss since transferring from the University of Central Florida, Dempsey has averaged 72.76 strokes per round and had 20 top-20, 13 top-10 and seven top-five efforts.

This year, Dempsey has put himself into the Rebel record books, as he currently stands second to Peege in season top-five finishes (7), season top-10 finishes (9), season stroke average (71.47) and most rounds at par or better in a season (19). Pending an invitation to an NCAA Regional, which will be announced May 9, Dempsey could add more records to one of the best seasons in Ole Miss history.

Dempsey is joined on the first team by David Skinns of Tennessee, John Holmes of Kentucky, Matt Every of Florida, Chris Kirk of Georgia, Lee Williams of Auburn, David Denham of Georgia, Luke List of Vanderbilt and Mark Anderson of South Carolina.

Holmes was named SEC Golfer of the Year and Anderson SEC Freshman of the Year, while Kentucky's Brian Craig was voted SEC Coach of the Year by his peers after the Wildcats won the school's first SEC title.
