BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss junior left-hander Matt Maloney was named the Southeastern Conference's Pitcher of the Week by the conference office Monday, following his two-hit shutout of Mississippi State this past Saturday.

Maloney threw 100 pitches in limiting the Bulldogs to two hits and no walks and facing just two batters of the minimum in the 5-0 win. He also struck out four and did not allow a Mississippi State base runner to reach second.

The shutout was the first of his career and it was also Maloney's first career SEC win.

"Matt is very deserving to be named the SEC Pitcher of the Week," said Ole Miss Head Coach Mike Bianco. "Matt has been very good for us all season, either as a starter or reliever, but Saturday's performance was just outstanding. He certainly has been one of the big reasons for our success this season."

Ole Miss went on to sweep the three-game series, marking the first time since 1978 that the Rebels have swept a three-game series from the Bulldogs.

Maloney has made 17 appearances, including seven starts, this season. He is 5-1 with a 1.83 ERA and has struck out 73 while walking only 14 in 68 2/3 innings.

Ole Miss is 32-13 overall and 12-9 in the SEC. The Rebels are tied with LSU for second place in the SEC Western Division, one game behind first-place Alabama.

Ole Miss will host Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday and Murray State on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The Rebels will then open a three-game SEC series at Auburn this Friday evening at 7 p.m.
