Rebels Finish Day One of 2005 NCAA Mideast Regional Meet

OXFORD, Miss. - Twenty members of the Ole Miss track and fields team finished day one of the 2005 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by the University of Indiana at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on Friday. The top eight finishers in each individual event and the top six relay teams will advance to the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships held June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif.
Nine Rebels and 11 Lady Rebels traveled to Bloomington, Ind. for the meet. After day one, freshman Kenyata Coleman will advance to the final day with her personal best time of 53.24 in the 400 meters. Also running a personal best time and advancing to finals is senior Octavia Carter with her time of 13.61 in the 100-meter hurdles. The Lady Rebel 4x100 meter relay team will also compete in the final with their qualifying time of 44.83. Sophomore Kimberly Mulkey competed in the 100 meters clocking in at 11.96.
For the men's squad, senior Antwon Hicks, a two-time NCAA Indoor Champion in the 60-meter hurdles will continue the search for his first outdoor title as he qualified for the final in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.76. Also competing in the 110-meter hurdles was sophomore John Yarbrough running a time of 14.23, barely missing the finals. Yarbrough also competing in the 400-meter hurdles finished in a time of 56.54. Junior Chris Lawson, ran a 100 meter dash time of 10.58 and was also a part of the 4x100 meter relay team with Chris Patton, Mark Gregory, and Anka Autman which finished in a time of 40.52.
Due to inclement weather, the rest of day one's events will be held on Saturday, which include the men's and women's long jump, the men's 200 meters and the men's and women's 5,000 meters.
The meet will conclude on Saturday May 28 with the running of the men's 4x400 meter relay at 8:15 p.m.
