OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss senior All-SEC golfer Jordan Dempsey has been chosen an All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America as he was tabbed to the honorable mention list on Monday.
Dempsey, who led the Southeastern Conference this season with a 71.60 stroke average, becomes the Rebels' eighth golfer to earn All-America status in the program's history and the first since Jon Bartlett in 2000.
He capped his Ole Miss career by making the NCAA Tournament as an individual, finishing 68th at the East Regional in Nashville. He was the first Rebel to make an individual appearance since Bartlett in 2000.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native finished his senior season with the second-lowest season stroke average in school history, the second-most rounds under par in a season (18) and tied for the second-most top-10 finishes in a season (9). The record in all three categories belongs to Dave Peege from his 1983-84 All-American season.
Dempsey's 18 rounds under par and nine top-10 campaigns were both tops in the SEC this year.
He won the All-South Collegiate Invitational in Alachua, Fla., on Feb. 14-15 with rounds of 72 and 67, helping Ole Miss capture its second team title of the season.
He finished this season ranked 26th in the nation by Golfstat.com and 36th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. His 75 percent of greens in regulation was good for second in the nation according to Golfstat.com.
In his three seasons with Ole Miss after transferring from Central Florida, Dempsey recorded a 72.76 stroke average and notched seven top-five finishes, 13 top-10 showings and 20 top-20 outings.
The GCAA, in association with PING, named 11 first-teamers, 10 second-teamers, 10 third-teamers and 30 golfers as honorable mention.
