OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team took a break from their normally scheduled summer activities of taking classes and working out in preparation for the upcoming season, to spend some time with their younger fans at the Lafayette/Oxford/University Boys and Girls Club on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Rebels donated an allotment of their media guides from the last season for the children and also played basketball with the youths in the program.
"Our kids really enjoy this type of special event," said Patti Smith, Director of the Boys and Girls Club local chapter. "The children in our group look up to the Lady Rebels and are big fans of basketball in general. It made their day to get the opportunity to interact with their idols.
"Several of our girls have dreams of playing in the WNBA and at the collegiate level," added Smith. "This gives them an opportunity to see first-hand what it takes to reach their goals."
After signing autographs, the Lady Rebels took time to take pictures with the kids and also participated in some basketball games. Players in attendance were seniors Ellen Buchanan, Ashley Johnson and LaTanya Jones; sophomores Dee Forrest, Jada Mincy, Lindsay Roy and Tasi Worsham and freshmen Shawn Goff and Brandi Tipton.
