Kirui Leads Ole Miss At Chile Pepper Invitational

FAYETEVILLE, Ark. Freshman Barnabas Kirui once again led all Ole Miss runners at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas. Kirui finished eighth among collegiate runners and tenth overall with a time of 28:49.0.

“Barnabas ran a very strong race today,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. “This was the first 10k he was able to run in under 29 minutes. He is getting stronger as the season progresses and is running smarter. He really faced a very strong field today. This is one of the deepest group of runners anyone will see all season.”

As a team Ole Miss finished 20^th overall. Also running for Ole Miss were Gabriel Ngwiri (31:03.5, 66^th), Kyle Lewis (31:45.2, 110^th), Seth Conerly (33:57.9, 221^st), Devin Darnall (34:32.6, 235^th) and Bryce McKay (35:37.8, 259^th).

The Rebel women finished 33th overall. Running for the Ole Miss women were Samantha Mazer (22:44.2, 121^st), Shannon Chandler (23:38.1, 199^th), Anna Adams (23:46.8, 211^th), Cassie Kipper (24:13.9, 244^th), Lindsay Doucett (24:32.2, 254^th), Kirby Patterson (25:00.6, 266^th), Micah Pioreck (25:05.5, 270^th) and Carolyn Hill (26:57.3, 312^th).

Ole Miss travels to Baton Rouge, La. on Oct 28 for the SEC Championships.
