Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic scored three runs in the third inning on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Ole Miss softball team (2-5) in the Rebels' second game on the first day of the FAU Dunkin' Donuts Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic University.

Junior left-hander Mary Jane Callahan (0-3) pitched six innings for the complete game. She allowed three runs, but none were earned as the Rebels made three errors in the contest. Callahan struck out six batters and allowed just one walk.

The Ole Miss bats came alive in the game with eight hits, including two-hit performances by senior Rebecca McIntire and sophomore Lauren Rowe. However, the Rebels finished the game with 11 runners left on base, as Owls freshman right-hander Kathryn Stauffer (1-3) pitched out of jams all game long to record the complete-game shutout.

The Rebels and Owls both had runners on base in the first two innings, but could not capitalize with any runs.

An Ole Miss error on the first batter of the third inning would come back to hurt the Rebels. The Owl catcher, Charlotte Baird, reached on the error and came around to score the game's first run. FAU (2-4) added two more runs in the inning to take the eventual victorious 3-0 advantage.

Callahan shut down the Owls the rest of the way, but the Ole Miss offense could not push a run across the plate despite some solid hits.

Ole Miss had a golden scoring chance with the bases loaded and only one out in the top of the fourth. Vanessa Gibbs drilled a grounder to the FAU second baseman, who threw out Lauren Rowe at home plate on a bang-bang play. Callahan was next up to the plate, and she hit a fielder's choice to the shortstop, who made the force play at third base for the half-inning's final out.

The Rebels came right back in the fifth inning and produced two baserunners with one out, but were again unable to score as Stauffer made it out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts of Lauren Rowe and Jill Bandhauer.

Callahan led off the seventh with an infield single to give Ole Miss one more shot at a comeback. After McIntire fouled out to the shortstop, Lisa Conchos added another infield single to give the Rebels runners on first and third with one out. The cleanup hitter, Michelle May, popped up to the shortstop for the second out, before Rowe grounded out to the pitcher for the final out of the game.

Ole Miss will take on Florida International at 9 a.m. ET before meeting with Long Island at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Based on the first two days of play, the Rebels will play at either 9 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Sunday.
