Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Ole Miss softball team lost its fourth straight game in which the Rebels out-hit their opponent, as the Long Island Blackbirds won 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at the FAU Dunkin' Donuts Classic.

Ole Miss (2-7) out-hit Long Island 5-4, but was again haunted by fielding mistakes, including three errors and a costly wild pitch.

Sophomore third baseman Lauren Rowe extended her hitting streak to four games, while sophomore outfielder Jessica Plemons had a 1-for-2 performance with a pair of RBI.

Long Island (1-2) got the scoring started when third baseman Alyssa Winslow drove in two runs with a two-out double to give the Blackbirds a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ole Miss has yet to win this year when the opponent cracks the scoreboard first.

The Rebels came back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brittany Warner started a two-out rally with a single. The Rebels went on to load the bases for Plemons, who notched her fourth and fifth RBI of the season with a single to right-centerfield to tie the game at 2-2.

Long Island regained the lead in the top of the third when Celina Castillo, who walked to lead off the inning, scored from third on a Dana Brill wild pitch before Brill struck out the batter.

In the top of the sixth, Long Island got runners on first and second with one out, and managed one insurance run before leaving the bases loaded with an inning-ending strikeout by Brill.

After relieving starting pitcher Cathie Hacker (1-2) after one out in the third, Brill tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run, which was unearned.

Despite out-hitting their opponents, the Rebels have struggled to bring in runs in Boca Raton. In four games played at the FAU Softball Stadium, Ole Miss has left 31 runners stranded on base.

Ole Miss will play the No. 5 seed at 9 a.m. on Sunday to wrap up its participation in the FAU Dunkin' Donuts Classic.
