Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A three-run third inning helped propel Ball State to a comeback victory over the Ole Miss softball team, as the Cardinals edged the Rebels 5-3 on Saturday morning at the Evansville Invitational.

Ole Miss (2-9) scored an early run in the top of the first inning when junior Mary Jane Callahan scored on a throwing error after freshman Lisa Conchos walked. Conchos scored from second on Lauren Rowe's RBI double to give the Rebels an early 2-0 lead.

The Rebels held a two-run lead until Ball State (1-0) put three runs on the board in the third, two of which were unearned.

The Cardinals extended the lead to three runs with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings before Ole Miss moved back to within one when Callahan knocked in Stacy McCommon with an RBI double with two outs in the seventh. The Rebels would get no closer, though, to end the game with a 5-3 defeat.

Callahan (0-6) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, while she gave up five runs (three earned) and 10 hits with five strikeouts in the complete-game effort in the circle.

Junior Jill Bandhauer and Rowe collected the other two hits for the Rebels, who were out-hit for the first time in six games.
