EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Ole Miss softball team dropped its second game of the day, as six Rebel errors helped Evansville to a 5-1 victory on Saturday at Cooper Stadium.
Ole Miss (2-10) out-hit its opponent for the sixth time in the last seven games, getting a pair of hits from freshman Lisa Conchos and one each from junior Mary Jane Callahan and freshman Michelle May, for a 4-3 advantage in the hit column.
Senior right-hander Dana Brill (1-2) pitched six innings for the complete game, giving up three hits and five runs (two earned), while striking out five in the contest.
Those efforts were not enough to give Ole Miss its third win of the season, though, as the club struggled in the field with six errors, including four mishaps in Evansville's two-run fourth inning and two more in the Purple Aces' three-run fifth inning.
For the second straight game, Ole Miss got on the scoreboard first, as May singled to left field, advanced to second on Erin Faircloth's sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on an error by the Purple Ace right fielder to give the Rebels a 1-0 advantage.
Evansville (7-1) got a strong performance from starter Ashley Hobbs (5-0) in the circle, as she pitched all seven innings and allowed one run, which was unearned.
Ole Miss returns to Cooper Stadium to take on Ball State and Evansville on Sunday, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
