OXFORD, Miss. - The Rebels had another tough day at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, as the No. 13-ranked LSU Tigers completed a three-game sweep with a 10-0 win on Sunday.
The Tigers (24-3, 3-0 SEC) managed 11 hits in the five-inning, run-rule contest, the most the Rebels have given up all season.
Ole Miss (7-17, 0-3 SEC) had five hits, including a 2-for-3 performance by junior pitcher Mary Jane Callahan.
Callahan (3-10) suffered the loss in the circle, going five innings and giving up seven earned runs, while walking three. For only the second time this year, the all-time strikeout queen in Ole Miss history did not fan a batter.
LSU's Dani Hofer (8-2) got the win, as she scattered five Rebel hits and walked one, while striking out three in the complete-game shutout.
LSU broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with three runs, including a two-run double by Leslie Klein, who was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the contest.
After another Tiger run in the fourth, the top of the fifth was unkind to the Rebels, as LSU put up six more runs to give them a 10-0 advantage. Three of the Tiger runs in the fifth were unearned, due to an Ole Miss error.
LSU has now swept the series with Ole Miss for seven straight seasons. The Rebels last took a game from the perennial national power back in 1999.
Next up for Ole Miss is a Tuesday doubleheader against non-conference foe Stephen F. Austin at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The games are slated for 5 and 7 p.m. Following that, the Rebels will take a road trip to Hattiesburg to take on Southern Miss in a doubleheader on Thursday before returning to Oxford and SEC play with a weekend series against Florida.
