MOBILE, Ala. - The Ole Miss men's golf team claimed their first title of the spring season and third of the 2005-06 golf season after turning in a 279-287-290--856 at the USA Spring Golf Classic hosted at the Heron Lakes Country Club. After taking an 11-stroke lead in to the final round, the Rebels behind junior Kyle Ellis' first place finish, went on to win the tournament by 21 strokes on Tuesday afternoon.

"I am extremely proud of the team and they way they competed, especially Kyle," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "All five of our guys finished in the top 15 and that is just phenomenal. This is certainly the best Rebel golf performance I have witnessed."

Ellis was the top medalist in the 12-team field. He turned in a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to close the tournament with a 68-73-71--212.

"Kyle turned in a fine individual performance," said Ross. "He is the first Ole Miss golfer to win an outright title since I have been back here. I am very proud of the way he is playing right now."

Sophomore Jamie Howarth and freshman Will Roebuck finished in a five-player tie for second place. Howarth and Roebuck each carded a 74 on Tuesday to close out the tournament four strokes behind Ellis at 216.

Sophomore David Marino also finished in the top 10 as he tied for seventh place. Marino posted a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to finish the tourney with a 217. Freshman Larry Blatt was tied for 14th at the conclusion of the tourney. Blatt shot a 74 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 221.
