Ole Miss Drops Series With Loss To Arkansas

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team (12-22, 1-8 SEC) dropped a 9-0 decision to Arkansas (15-14, 4-5 SEC) on Wednesday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, to drop the three-game series after the two teams split a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Arkansas used a four-run second inning and five-run third to put the Rebels out of reach. With the win, the Lady Razorbacks take a 24-10 lead in the all-time series, while the Rebels have still won six of the last nine meetings.
Arkansas' Mindy O'Malley went 2-for-4 with five RBI to lead the Lady `Backs at the plate. For the game, Arkansas scored nine runs on just eight hits.
The Rebels had four hits on the evening, including a pair of hits by sophomore outfielder Kayla Mosley. Freshman shortstop Lisa Conchos and sophomore second baseman Lauren Rowe also recorded hits.
Junior Cathie Hacker (1-3) suffered the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) in two innings of work. Senior right-hander Dana Brill relieved her and pitched the game's final three innings, giving up three runs, but none of them earned, while striking out three.
Katy Henry (8-5) scattered four hits in five innings and struck out four to earn the win in her complete-game shutout.
O'Malley hit a three-run double in the second inning to break open a 4-0 lead for the Lady `Backs. A two-run single by O'Malley highlighted Arkansas' five-run third inning.
Ole Miss will get a welcome weekend off after a stretch of 13 games in the last 12 days. The Rebels return to action when they travel to Itta Bena to take on Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. The next SEC series is a three-game tilt in Athens, Ga., against the Georgia Bulldogs on April 1 and 2.
