AUSTIN, Texas - The Ole Miss softball team wrapped up its play in the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.

With the loss, the Rebels dropped to 5-14 on the season with a 1-4 mark in Austin. Head coach Missy Dickerson is now 1-1 against her former club, after Ole Miss defeated the Islanders 6-1 on Saturday morning.

Ole Miss was looking to do some early damage in the first inning. After leadoff singles by junior Mary Jane Callahan and senior third baseman Rebecca McIntire, sophomore second baseman Lauren Rowe walked to load the bases with one out. But the Islanders induced a pitcher-catcher-first double play to get out of the inning.

The Rebels left three more on base in the second after loading the bases again, with two outs, but could not push a run through.

In the top of the fourth, the Islanders loaded the bases with no outs and plated the game's first run with a single up the middle by Brenda Guerrero. The next three up to bat fouled out to third, grounded out second-to-catcher and grounded out second-to-first to end the scoring threat.

TAMU-CC added to its lead with two runs in the fifth on a passed ball and bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0.

The Rebels responded in the bottom of the fifth with a run of their own. McIntire hit her third double in two days, and Callahan scored from first to cut the deficit to two at 3-1. Incidentally, senior Dana Brill, who had come in relief of Callahan in the circle, led off the inning with a single to center field in her first at-bat of the season.

Ole Miss could not push across any more runs in the contest, though, as the Islanders' Amanda Foster did not allow a hit in the final 2 2/3 innings to record her first save.

Krystal Martinez (1-0) got the win for TAMU-CC, while Brill (2-4) took the loss for the Rebels after giving up two runs in the final three frames. Callahan started the game and worked four innings. She gave up one run, while striking out two.

Ole Miss' top hitters in the contest were leadoff-hitting Callahan and two-hole hitting McIntire, who each notched a pair of hits. Brill was the only other Rebel to record a hit.

The Rebels will open play at the newly renovated Ole Miss Softball Complex in their first home games of the season with a doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana slated for 5 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
