STARKVILLE, Miss. - Junior left-hander Mary Jane Callahan pitched a complete-game shutout and senior Mandy Ott hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to propel the Ole Miss softball team to a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night to complete the Rebels' first-ever season sweep of rival Mississippi State.

With the win, the Rebels (18-33, 5-19 SEC) move to a perfect 7-0 this season against teams from Mississippi to clinch an unofficial "State Championship."

"It's nice to do something that's never been done here by sweeping Mississippi State," said first-year head coach Missy Dickerson. "I was real proud of the way our team played tonight."

Callahan (8-16) notched her third shutout of the year as she allowed just three hits, while striking out one and walking one.

Freshman shortstop Lisa Conchos, who leads Ole Miss in batting, was 2-for-3 in the contest with a double, while scoring the game's lone run.

It was a pitcher's duel through the first three innings. Both teams had just one hit through three frames, while leaving two runners on base.

Ott broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double that scored Conchos, who had doubled off the top of the wall in left-center field to lead off the frame.

The Bulldogs (30-26, 4-20 SEC) got back-to-back two-out infield singles in the bottom of the fifth, but Callahan induced a Hayle Guess groundout to shortstop to end the threat.

Stephanie Comeaux (14-9) took the loss in the circle for the Bulldogs, going five innings and allowing the one run on three hits, while striking out three.

Ole Miss handed State its 18th consecutive defeat of the season, a school record for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State has not won a game since it was 30-8 and ranked in the top 25 in the nation.

The Rebels will continue their quest for the program's first-ever SEC Tournament berth when they host the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend for the final home SEC series of the season.

Ole Miss now stands in ninth place in the SEC standings with a one-game lead over Kentucky and Mississippi State. The teams with the top eight league records at season's end earn a trip to the conference tournament. The Rebels are currently one-and-a-half games back of South Carolina for the eighth slot.
