Mary Jane Callahan Named SEC Pitcher Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss junior left-handed pitcher Mary Jane Callahan won three games and pitched 20 scoreless innings this past week on her way to earning her second career Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Callahan was instrumental in helping the Rebels secure their first-ever five-game SEC win streak and sweep two conference teams in a season for the first time in school history.
The Muenster, Texas, native pitched a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at in-state rival Mississippi State on Wednesday to clinch a sweep of the season series, then threw her second consecutive shutout with a two-hit, eight-strikeout performance in a 1-0 win against Kentucky on Saturday. It marked the third time in her career to pitch back-to-back complete-game shutouts.
Callahan capped the sweep of the Wildcats on Sunday by earning the win with six scoreless innings in relief, giving up three hits and striking out three in a 2-1 10-inning victory.
She now has a career-long streak of 24 consecutive scoreless innings. She has also gone the last 26 frames without allowing an earned run. The versatile player who also hits and plays outfield helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 day at the plate on Sunday, including her second home run of the season.
Callahan was also the SEC Pitcher of the Week selection last year after her performance at the St. Joseph's Aggie Classic. She is the only Rebel in program history to have garnered a Pitcher of the Week selection.
The Rebels will try to continue their winning ways when they host a non-conference doubleheader with Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday for the final home games of the season. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
