Tveit Ends Run In NCAA Singles

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Ole Miss sophomore Erling Tveit ran into the No. 1 seed, Benjamin Kohlloeffel of UCLA, in the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships Sunday, and Kohlloeffel played like it, winning in straight sets.
At 2-2 in the first set, Kohlloeffel broke Tveit and held to win it 6-3. Tveit fell behind 3-0 in the second set and couldn't hang on, as the Bruin (46-4) went on claim it 6-1 to advance to the final.
"Erling needed to serve a little better to have a chance against a guy like Kohlloeffel," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "He had to work hard to get every point on his serve. There is a reason why he's the No. 1 player in the country. However, we are very excited for the tournament that Erling had. He played great to get to the semifinals in his first appearance."
Tveit, the ITA Southeast Region Player to Watch, ends his second year at 35-9 and is now 57-12 in just one and a half years. He also improved to 13-2 overall in the NCAA Championships, including 9-1 in the team portion.
An All-SEC first team selection, Tveit joined former All-Americans Joakim Appelqvist (1994), Johan Hede (1996) and Sebastien DeChaunac (1997) as NCAA Singles Semifinalists.
