Jernigan and Chandler lead Ole Miss Cross Country in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Memphis Twilight Classic on Saturday night hosted by Christian Brothers University.
The Rebels were led by senior Justin Jernigan (Taylorsville, Miss.) whose time of 20:53.54 placed him 13th overall in the men's results. Junior Shannon Chandler (Germantown, Tenn.) was the top finisher for the Lady Rebels with a time of 18:37.04, which placed her 29th in the women's race.
"I thought both the men's and women's teams competed hard," said assistant coach Doug Blackwell. "Justin Jernigan ran a great race and had a good finish."
Alabama and Harding University took home the titles in the men's four-mile run and women's three-mile run respectively. James Kiptoo of Harding took first place in the men's race with a time of 19:04.68, while Aoife Cooke and Arkansas Tech finished first in the women's race with a time of 16:55.32.
The Rebel men finished third in the team results with a total team score of 136 points, behind Alabama and Harding. The Lady Rebels placed tenth overall with a total of 273 points.
Following Jernigan, other runners leading the way for Ole Miss were Kyle Lewis (17th, 20:59.58), Stephen Clevenger (30th, 21:09.85), Seth Conerly (47th, 21:26.29) and Devin Darnall (59th, 21:41.07).
Behind Chandler, other Ole Miss women were Samantha Mazer (38th, 18:56.70), Micah Poireck (56th, 19:25.72), Lindsey Doucett (87th, 20:19.62) and Kay Sanford (90th, 20:28.97).
