The team received some good news about one of its newest linemen.
“John Jerry was cleared and was out at practice today,” Orgeron said of the 6-5, 350-pound freshman from Batesville. “We’re happy about that, and he was relieved. He was very anxious.”
Another member of the nationally ranked incoming freshman class, linebacker Rory Johnson, also has made strides in his first days of collegiate practice.
“Rory made some good plays out there today,” Orgeron said. “You can tell he’s going to be the kind of linebacker we expected. He has a great attitude. I don’t think it’s going to take very long for him to get comfortable with the defense.”
Orgeron also updated the status of some of the Rebels’ talented, but inexperienced members of the wide receiver corps.
“Shay Hodge is doing alright. Dexter (McCluster) is still doing okay. Kendrick Lewis had a couple of good catches out there today.”
The Memphis game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. CT.
