Rebel Track Family Loses Former Athlete Dear

OXFORD, Miss. - Funeral arrangements have been set for former Ole Miss track and field All-American Gabe Dear, who lost his life on Tuesday. Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at
A four-year letterwinner from 1987-1990, Dear earned All-America honors, along with teammates Michael Cox, Thomas Johnson and George Kersh, in 1990 as a member of the men’s 4x400 meter relay team, which finished sixth in the country. Dear was also a member of the shuttle hurdle relay team that holds the school record with a time of 1:0173.
Dear held the rank of captain in the United States Army and was a member of the 1st Brigade, 87th Division, a training support unit. Dear’s unit had recently been mobilized for
