Ole Miss Competes In SEC Cross Country Championships

Columbia, S.C. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams competed in the SEC Cross Country Champions on Saturday, hosted by the University of South Carolina.

The one-day event was held on Hilton Field at Ft. Jackson, in Columbia. The Rebel men finished tenth out of the 11 team SEC field, while the Lady Rebels finished 12th.

Sophomore Kyle Lewis, from Bay St. Louis, Miss., led all Ole Miss runners with a time of 24:45.78, which placed him 38th overall. Shannon Chandler, a junior from Germantown, Tenn., was the top Ole Miss women's finisher with a time of 22:21.26, which placed her 63rd overall.

Arkansas won the men's overall title, while Tennessee claimed the women's championship. Josphat Boit, of Arkansas, won the men's individual title with a time of 22:59.10. Angela Homan, of Auburn, claimed the women's individual championship with a time of 19:40.00.

Other men running for Ole Miss were Justin Jernigan (25:27.42, 62nd), Stephen Clevenger (26:03.43, 76th), Seth Conerly (26:14.70, 80th), Matthew Merritt (26:44.84, 88th), Devin Darnall (26:49.27, 89th), Mike Atkins (27:57.33, 93rd) and Bryce McKay (28:28.88, 94th).

Other women running for Ole Miss were Micah Pioreck (22:41.48, 73rd), Samantha Mazer (23:15.12, 85th), Lindsay Doucett (23:25.38, 90th), Kirby Patterson (24:46.78, 99th), Cassie Kipper (25:27.26, 100th), Carolyn Hill (25:35.16, 101st) and Kay Sanford (25:48.82, 102nd).
