Rebel Golfers To Tee It Up In Memphis

9/29/2006 | Men's Golf

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Men’s Golf Team will head to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Intercollegiate Oct. 2 and 3 at the Par 72, 7,259-yard Colonial Country Club, which at one time hosted the FedEx St. Jude PGA Tour event.

The format will be 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.  The field will consist of 18 teams, including four teams ranked in this week’s Golfweek rankings and SEC rival Mississippi State.   Louisville (No. 12) and TCU (No. 14) are among the top 15 in the nation.

Ole Miss looks to improve on their season-opening sixth place finish at the Scenic City Intercollegiate.  The Rebels will be led by senior Callum Macaulay, who took third in the opening tournament.  Joining him will be fellow senior Chris Rogers, junior Jamie Howarth and sophomores Will Roebuck and Larry Blatt.

“We are playing a very difficult course, and I know tough courses bring out the best in great players,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “I am counting on our team to play well.  Callum played well at our last tournament at the Honors Course, finishing third out of 90 players.  Will led our team in qualifying, and I am happy to see he is playing well.  We are prepared to play a great tournament.”
