The Ole Miss men’s golf team will open the 2006-07 season Sept. 11-12 at the Scenic City Intercollegiate in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The Honors Course will host to the two-day, 54-hole event.

The field features 18 teams, including SEC members LSU and Mississippi State.  UNC-Charlotte comes in as the top team in the country with a No. 17 ranking.  Ole Miss finished the 2005-06 season ranked No. 50 in the nation and is looking to make a move up this year.

“The Honors Course is one of the top 25 courses in the nation,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “We are excited about playing this course and competing in the first tournament of the fall.  Our players had very good summers, and we are raring to go.”

The Rebels bring an experienced team to Chattanooga with seniors Callum Macauley, Chris Rogers and Brice Bailey, junior Jamie Howarth and sophomore Larry Blatt.

Rogers advanced to the U.S. Amateur match play in August, becoming the first Rebel golfer to do so since Jarrod Gardner in 2003.   Blatt also earned a bid to the U.S. Amateur.

Monday’s play will consist of 36 holes, with 18 holes on Tuesday, to conclude the tournament.  To follow the Rebels during the tournament go to www.olemisssports.com and click on the tournament link.
